Shanghai Party Secretary Qiang Li visited SIAS’s newly established headquarter on September 2nd, 2021. During his visit, Li expressed his high expectations towards the future development of SIAS.

Li spent the majority of his time in the exhibition hall on the main floor where SIAS showcases its major research focus across all labs. Dr. Ruhong Zhou, Dean of SIAS, introduced a full spectrum of the institute’s innovation system, where the ‘1+3+X’ structure is placed at the core. To reinforce the idea, the “1 + 3 + X” stands for 1 ‘Computing + Artificial Intelligence’ frontier research base, 3 ‘Computing + Innovation laboratories’ (‘Computing + Finance’, ‘Computing + Engineering’, ‘Computing +Biology’), and X being multiple service and support platforms.

In addition, Dr Zhou explained in detail several significant projects currently being carried out that center around Artificial Intelligence, Precision Drug Design, Engineering Simulation and Intelligent Finance. Dr Shaobo Ren, Secretary of the CPC of Zhejiang University, also joined the visit and conversation.

During Li’s visit at SIAS, he asked if any practical support can be made from the municipal government to accelerate scientific advancement. He pointed out that SIAS should continue to cooperate well with the local institutions and hospitals, with an affirmation of breaking through the bottleneck of scientific research. On top of that, SIAS should also leverage the significant academic capabilities of Zhejiang University, attract top talents, and draw out core technological research that hinder the development.
