Shanghai Institute for Advanced Study of Zhejiang University (SIAS) proudly hosted its first Administrative Committee meeting on Oct 26, 2021. This meeting reflected a commitment to Zhejiang University, to Shanghai, and to the academia as SIAS engages its researchers and stakeholders in contributing to the economic and scientific development.
The event brought together a number of leaders from multiple offices of Shanghai government and Zhejiang University. Together, the committee members reviewed and approved the charter of the SIAS (draft) and confirmed the nomination of the leadership. The meeting was initiated with a keynote presentation by Dr. Ruhong Zhou, Dean of SIAS. For the overview of SIAS, he mentioned that SIAS focused on the basic theory of ‘Computing +’ and strove to build ‘1+3+X’ full-chain innovation ecosystem, namely 1 ‘Computing + Artificial Intelligence’ frontier research base; 3 ‘Computing + Innovation laboratories’ (‘Computing + Finance’, ‘Computing + Engineering’, ‘Computing +Biology’) and multiple service and support platforms.

For the future plan, he argued that SIAS was seeking top talents working on the frontiers of computational sciences and AI who can envision and actualize research programs that make SIAS become a global leader in forming the world-class ‘Computing +’ ecosystem for social advancement.
Dr. Qing Wu, Deputy Mayor of Shanghai municipal government, spoke about the scientific and academic achievements of SIAS and expressed his expectations towards the talent introductions, the key scientific breakthroughs, and the academic achievement transformations. Dr. Lizhong Wang, Deputy President of Zhejiang University, mentioned that the mission of SIAS was to fulfill the national needs, to serve the regional community, and to enhance the development of Shanghai and Zhejiang University.
In the afternoon, two joint innovation centers were inaugurated. SIAS and Biren Technology founded the joint innovation center for intelligent scientific computation and application. SIAS and Supremind founded the joint innovation center for intelligent management of urban space. Those industry-academia-research collaborations demonstrate the ambition of SIAS to conduct disruptive interdisciplinary frontier studies and cutting-edge scientific research that promote synergy between technological innovation and industrial development.
