Dr Yi Hong is an associate professor at College of Civil Engineering and Architecture of Zhejiang University, and an Adjunct Professor of Shanghai Institute for Advanced Study of Zhejiang University (SIAS). He received his PhD in Geotechnical Engineering from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2012.

Dr Hong’s research interests include marine geotechnical engineering, marine geotechnical engineering, and the development of subterranean space in coastal cities.

His research results have beenpublished in Géotechnique, Journal of Geotechnicaland Geoenviromental Engineering, Canadian Geotechnical Journal, Journal of Engineering Mechanics, Journal of Rock Mechanics and Engineering, Journal of Geotechnical Engineering etc, with 2 ESI highly cited papers, and they have been cited 852 times by scholars from 45 countries and regions. He served as editor and co-editor for monographs published by Springerand Elsevier, and holds 13 invention patents, and 8 registered software. He also received multiple provincial awards.

His research has been applied to micro-settlement control work following large-scale coastal subway projects, new energy projects, e.g., the world's first super critical 1,000-ton heavy-duty petrochemical base (Zhoushan Green International Petrochemical Base) built on soft gassy soil and China's first international airport feeder project (Xiaoshan) with underpass tunnelon soft gassy soil.

Dr Hong is a member of TC214(Foundation Engineering for Difficult Soft Soil Conditions) of International Society of Geotechnical and Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Risk and Insurance Research Branch of Chinese Society of Civil Engineering and Geotechnical Engineering Branch of ChineseSociety of Earthquake Engineering. He is also a junior member of the Engineering Risk and Insurance Research Committee of the Chinese Society of Civil Engineering and the Earthquake Disaster Preventionand Mitigation Committee for Geotechnical Engineering of the Chinese Society of Earthquake Engineering. As the co-chair of the organizing committee and secretary general of the conference, he has organized four conferences at home and abroad and delivered several keynote or invited presentations at international conferences.
