Dr Yongqun Zhu graduated from Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2007 and became a professor in College of Life Sciences, Zhejiang University from 2017. He is currently a Qiushi Professor and is an Adjunct Professor of Shanghai Institute for Advanced Study of Zhejiang University (SIAS).
Dr Zhu and his lab is using structural biology, biochemistry and cell biology to study the molecular mechanisms of bacterial-host interactions, and their research mainly focus on:
The molecular mechanisms of the modulation of host signaling by bacterial effectors
Commensal bacteria-hostinteractions in intestine
Structural studies ofbacterial-host interactions
Throughout his research life, he had been recognized by multiple national organizations, receiving the National Outstanding Youth Fund as well as winning the 16th China Youth Science and Technology Award. Prof. Many new mechanisms of pathogenic factors of pathogenic bacteria have been discovered, and important scientific questions such as flagellar motor, long-chain fatty acylation modification, and mechanism of action of bacterial secretion system have been solved, and many long-term scientific questions in the field have been answered. Dr Zhu has published a series of papers in Science, Cell, Molecular Cell, Nature Microbiology, PNAS, etc.
